Fancun Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was proposed by Bi Zhiguo and Zang Runhai in 1973. The type section is near Fancun Village, northeast of the Ningguo County seat in southern Anhui Province.
Synonym: (畈村组) ; The Taiping Gr, named by the Anhui Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1965, with the section at Juken and Longmen in Taiping County as its type sections, is equivalent to the Fancun Fm and Juken Fm (i.e., the Maoshan Fm). Moreover, the Taiping Gr, as a synonym of the Taiping shale (equivalent to Ningguo Fm of the Ordovician System) proposed by Xu Jie in 1934, was abandoned by Du Senguan in 1989.
Lithology and Thickness
The formation can be subdivided into two members. Lower member, 170-370 m in thickness, consists of yellowish green, grey medium-bedded fine grain sandstone intercalated with siltstone and no shelly fossils are found so far. Upper member, 620-1340 m in thickness, is composed of grey green, yellowish green mudstone, silty mudstone and siltstone, intercalated with several beds of fine grain sandstone

Lower contact
It conformably contacts with the underlying Helixi Fm
Upper contact
It conformably contacts with the overlying Maoshan Fm
Regional extent
It is exposed in the areas of Ningguo, Anhui Province.

Fossils
It yields the fossils brachiopod Nalivkinia, Lingula?;bivalve Modiolopsis, Paracyclas, Goniophora, gastropod Pycnomphalus, and acritarchs as well.

It is the clastic sediments of inshore shallow water environment, exposed in the areas of Ningguo, Anhui Province.
